Theresa Hanson grew to become the first female Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation at SFU on October 26, 2015. But she was no stranger to SFU or producing record. In an interview with The Peak, she discovered her very long standing record with SFU and her struggle to carry Canadian athletics to the NCAA.

Hanson was employed as the assistant mentor of the women’s basketball crew in 1988 by “legendary” mentor Allision McNeil, who she achieved while taking part in summertime basketball at SFU. Through her two decades at SFU, Hanson also satisfied her long run partner in previous assistant of SFU’s men’s basketball crew,  Kevin Hanson — the current UBC head coach.

Hanson’s achievements do not end there. In 2014, she was inducted into the Better Path Property of Champions Registry in 2014. Her father, who Hanson explained as “a correct prillar of the local community,” handed the award to her. 

“It certainly was a person of the proudest and most satisfying situations in my life,” she stated. 

Hanson’s latest milestone involves staying named to the Excellent Northwest Athletic Convention Division II Administration Council. The group is responsible for “recommending administrative policy and laws that govern the division.” Hanson believes having SFU current on the council is a wonderful benefit as the only Canadian college a component of the NCAA program. She will get started serving her 4 12 months time period in January 2023.
